Guide :Dishwashers : KUDS24SE Built-in Dishwasher

Cranky dishwasher I have to admit my wife's solution is the only one that works. Our ten-year-old Superba built-in usually starts a normal cycle part-way through, at the wash part, without filling or opening the dispenser door. Therefore the dishes come out with the soil now baked on. Closing the door, selecting normal and start results in a pump-out sound, or at least just the pump running to wash the dishes. The dishwasher ignores any cancel button push, and the light does not come on over the cancel button. The only way to stop the cycle is to open the door, but then it begins from where it left off shortly after closing again, as it should. Having been batching during my wife's holiday for the last week, I eventually was faced with a crammed-full dishwasher and, too lazy to wash it all by hand, I resorted to her technique of slamming the door as hard as I could and, presto, it started filling with water and worked perfectly! It's always bugged me that she's done that, I just figured she didn't understand how the control panel worked, but now I think she's on to something. So, before the door falls off the dishwasher, what should I consider?
